It's been a while since we updated on Greg... (mainly because we don't see as much of him these days - he's busy with girlfriend on the weekend and with school and gym during the week)
As most of you know he got into ATC for this year (Australian Technical College) - he's doing a "school based" apprenticeship - which means he will do up to year 12 - but also doing an apprenticeship at the same time...
The school he's going to actively finds him various jobs to try out - and then he may be offered various apprenticeships over the time....
We weren't sure how long it'd take before he'd be offered anything - or even what trade he'd be interested in doing... Last year he'd decided to be a diesel mechanic...
Anyway, his first two weeks of work experience were for a firm doing "Fitter and Turner" work, he enjoyed this... then he got told that there's another firm offering a "Fitter and Turner" apprenticeship - so he has just completed a week's work experience for them... At this point we aren't sure whether they're going to offer the apprenticeship to Greg - but if they did it would be great for him - they're only just down the road...
Poor Greg has had to train himself to wake up earlier (when he was going to state high he used to drag himself out of bed in time to get to school only a block away by 9am) - but this morning he surprised us all and was upstairs having breakfast with us at 6:30am - and he was awake!!! not just sleep walking.... he said he's gotten used to the early starts now and he doesn't mind them...
And now for the second bit of positive information about Greg's new school - he got Student of the Month for February.... so he must be impressing them at school as well as in the work place...
It's all looking really positive :)
And even more news.....
On Tuesday I had to pick Greg up from work early as he had tryouts for the Port Curtis Rugby team... he was selected for the team... over 40 tried out and he was one of 17 selected - so he's feeling pretty good about himself right now (especially as he's only been playing for a year)... if he does well on the Port Curtis team he could be selected to play at State Titles and then possibly Nationals.... so he's all excited....
