Conondale 2014 - Day Three.....

Sunday 2nd November

It was SO HOT... usually Conondale is nice and cool - and as much as the riding as tiring, it's not usually so hot that you're exhausted from simply riding from section to section... (no wonder the cake melted!)

My scores reflect my lack of time on the bike this year.... next year, this will be better!  Though, the sections were definitely not at the same level as they usually are.... and I wasn't upset about this... I like a challenge... unfortunately the challenge exhausted me way quicker than some of the previous years "straight through" type sections....

Again, I learnt that I should just follow my own lines and not listen to other people giving their suggestions about what is a better line... because, I always find that my lines work better for me....  Plus, if I stuff up on my line - that's ok.. if I stuff up on someone else's line - then it's THEIR fault for making me do it.. eheheh.... easier if I just blame myself :)

(as you can see from this - I didn't complete 4 of the sections... I got back to Section 1 (or on the second lap - it became Section 9) and I was sitting there, two riders away from entering the section and I realised that I just didn't have it in me... three of the four sections that I didn't do were rocky sections and if you stuff up in those - you walk away (or limp away) in a severe amount of pain....   I had to drive home with the kids on my own (Rob was still in the USA) and I just didn't feel safe doing it...

It's the one thing I love about trials... you decide if the sections are safe or unsafe... you choose to keep riding or to stop... you're only competing against yourself.. (well, for me that's what it is... as long as I do better than I did last time - then I feel I've won.... I'm never going to take out first place at a comp like that, so why stress it?)

After handing in my card (and being told that there was still 2hrs left to complete those four sections and that I should have a break and then go and do them) - I packed up the caravan, attached it to the car... and it was time to leave....

Blake was asleep before we'd even go to Conondale the township... (Jade took this photo for me)

We drove in convoy with Drew to Childers where we stopped at a park and walked to Subway to get lunch (3pm lunch - but still, lunch) - the kids then played while Drew and I chatted until about 5pm... then we headed to Bundy and Drew headed back to Rocky....

We unpacked, got the kids ready to bath - at which time I realised that Blake did not have a spare pair of PJ's - because I'd packed winter ones for him for Conondale and Summer PJ's for Bundy - and with it being so hot in Conondale, he'd worn his summer PJ's - and they'd been packed away with all of the dirty clothes locked in the caravan...

Luckily, I knew what Grandma had bought Blake for his birthday - so we said to him that Grandma had requested that his present be opened early....  He was very excited about his new PJ's and the day was saved!

The bathwater after Blake got out.... (Jade had showered - so this was purely Blake-dirt....

Grandma also got Blake a giant Snakes and Ladders game... the kids loved it....

The PJ's.....

Presents all out ready for the morning......

Conondale 2014 - Day Two.....

Saturday 1st November

Conondale is getting busier and busier each year, when we first started going there would only be a handful of families camping on the Friday night....  so because of that, there were always cows walking through the campsite in the early morning....

That's no longer the case.....  now at least half the people arrive on the Friday to get a full day of riding in on the Saturday before the comp on Sunday.....

The bonus of this is that the showers are working from the Friday - which means, Saturday Morning showers are a THING!

Puggle was given his very own Puggle from Suz and HeBe

Happy Birthday Drew... I got you an 18yr old!

18yr old... slightly more appropriate than a 12yr old....
(but only slightly!)

I think he's in love!

I bought myself an early birthday present.... and got a new Helmet as the one I'd bought last year had been a Large when I'd ordered a Medium.... and it was too big....

Happy Birthday HeBeGB - I gave him my old helmet that fitted him perfectly :)

This is part of Drew's birthday present....  I made him a Beta jacket....

Blake found a friend to go riding with - and off he went....

View up the one creek at Conondale....

Best trials spot....
(though - I think Rosedale is pretty impressive too! Just sayin')

As per usual - one of our bikes needs looking at....
Blake's bike kept dying - and we couldn't work out why.... HeBe to the rescue....

Blake's birthday cake didn't survive the trip.... It was left in the car in the heat - and the icing melted off...     Poor Drew was devastated as he was sure this cake was going to remain awesome.....
(and it was awesome - and everyone loved it - and he managed to stick most of it back together....)

Given it was Drew's birthday - we turned his damper into his very own birthday cake - with Sparklers....)

Happy Birthday Drew....!

Blake's cake put back together... ready to go out for everyone to sing happy birthday...

And this was the most lit that it was....   once we got outside - the candles blew themselves out - and there was no fixing it....
Blake didn't mind :)

Blake was most impressed about the pick axe on top of his cake....

The kids demonstrating how a pick axe works in minecraft...

Blake with his cake....

And of course, Blake wanted to eat his pick axe....

Cutting the cake...

Green and Brown layers....   Drew then cut these into squares... so they really looked like minecraft pieces... (but unfortunately I didn't get a photo of that!)

Drew gave Blake his birthday present early......

Conondale 2014 - Day One.....

Friday 31st October

All Charging items are plugged in and ready for us to leave for Conondale....

Prado loaded up with Caravan and ready to go....

Drew loaded up with trailer and bikes.....

Jade's little bike looks so cute with the other bikes :)
(Mom and Dad have Blake's bike to bring down)

We stopped at Gin Gin for a drink and a toilet break..... and I saw this drink, I was so excited - it was going to be amazing....

it wasn't!
(most disgusting drink EVER!)

When we finally arrived at Conondale - we discovered that I'd lost the lever to put the caravan up.... this was pretty much how the rest of my "Rob free time" had gone... everything had gone wrong, had broken the bike trailer - had broken my glasses - as well as other things......

Bush Mechanics to the rescue....

Eventually we got the caravan up and were able to make the beds and get the kids to sleep...

Usually Conondale is nice and cold... it's really refreshing after hot Gladstone weather.... but this night, it wasn't... stinking hot and I was in shorts and a t-shirt and was sweating like I'd just completed a gym session.....

February - Slumber Party Roller Disco
