Bout Preparation

10th March 2012

For our first bout - there was A LOT of preparation... hopefully a lot of stuff that we wont have to make again next time.... the job I insanely signed up for was to make all of the signs required around the venue.....

You always need to be able to identify the sin bin

Our teams Sin Bin Signs...
J = Jammer
B = Blocker
(these are put on the seats so that when you're sent to the sin bin you know which seat you HAVE to sit in)

Signs for the BCR sin bin seats....

I support myself!!! yay!!
(this sign didn't even get a viewing... but it was there if needed)

We also made up this sign to go above the sin bin sign.....

Suicide Seating
This is floor area where the crowd sit which is at least 10ft from the track - when we set it up - we set it around two sides of the track so that the teams and sin bins etc could be around the other two sides....

This was the other sign that went along suicide seating....
The reason this is a potentially dangerous area is that if a skater is pushed off the track they can go either face first - or even skate first - into the audience....   hence the 18+ requirement

There are a lot of volunteers involved in derby....  and then there's media (paper/tv as well as photographers taking pics so that we can all see how awesome we are later)

Geemar (one of the ladies on our team) bought everyone on the team a green and purple (it is actually purple) drink bottle and put their numbers on them......   she's awesome :)

As part of the merchandise they arranged to sell at the bout to raise money for the club - they got Stubby Coolers with our team name and club logo on it....

In our training scrimmage the fortnight before the bout, I knocked Snapperazie out of the track (a completely legal hit) - but she landed on (and bruised her) bum....

Lanyards finally arrived...

Supporter tags finalised...

the BCR team area sign.....  (these go where the team sits during the bout)

Our Team's area sign

I made the kids shirts..... with the team name on the front.....

and "Teddie Spawn" on the back

By the time we got closer to the bout, I was starting to wish it was all over and done with.... it was a lot more stressful hosting this event than I ever imagined......

The Hustlers - Pre-Bout Pics

So, we finally got our uniforms.... Lycra... not OVERLY excited about it... but they didn't look "too" bad...... this was to be our first home bout.... there was so much to organise for the day - and the fear of not selling enough tickets etc...  there was  A LOT of stress involved....    and not just for me... for Rob too... He was running the scoreboard and all things technology were his issue for the night....

Profile pic taken for the Bout Flyer

These pics were taken to be sent into the newspaper for the promotional articles leading up to the bout....

Superbikes 2012 - Day 9-10

Thursday 1st to Friday 2nd March

We had a very nice quiet day in the cabin on Thursday.... I got everything packed while Rob kept the kids entertained....   very little happened and it was the best way to end the holiday....  we were exhausted...

We got up early Friday morning and headed towards Melbourne... We went to Narelle's place to visit with her and the boys before it was time to get the hire car back and head to the airport...

The flight from Melbourne to Brisbane was good... a nice long flight meant that the kids could watch movies for a bit longer...

We got to Brisbane and had to wait around for nearly an hour for the Gladstone flight...

Before we were called for our flight, Michael & Ingrid arrived at the airport for their flight to Gladstone (they were coming up for Michael to run an Intense Derby Bootcamp weekend before our bout on 17th March....)

(the next two weeks were extremely flat out with having to get everything organised for the bout, therefore there are no pics and nothing really to blog....)
