A day FULL of excitement......

Thursday 7th November

Today couldn't have had more excitement jam packed into it.....  it started with a visit to see the principal of Gladstone Central State School... hold on, lets back track a little....

So, after all of our visits to see specialists and then a further trip to see Margaret Holloway in Bundaberg, we got hold of West (the current primary school) and sent them through all of the reports and all of their suggestions about how to best help Jade maintain focus in class... as she has now been diagnosed as ADHD... we were still trying to avoid any medication and were wanting to find a plan of attack that was going to work...

We signed up for the COGMED program and were due to head to Brisbane for that at the end of January, so in the mean time, we got hold of the school and asked them how we could best help Jade at home - any exercises we could do with her to help her learn to self-focus etc....

The school counsellor phoned me and said that she could pass the information onto Jade's teachers but if they weren't willing to do anything to help her, there was nothing they could do about it.  She also told me that if I wanted to help Jade, then I could find things on the internet to do to help her and left it at that.... I was completely shocked thinking that they could at least point me in the right direction so that we weren't working against the teachers etc..  but apparently I'm the one with the degree to help children... I guess....

Anyway, so we contacted Central straight away, and within a couple of days we had the appointment with Mrs Martin.... We went in, we explained what had been going on with Jade and school and she said that she is ADHD as well and went on to tell us all the amazing things that people with this "quirk" were able to do because their brains were continually multi-tasking etc...  she said that she loves quirky kids and that each child at the school is dealt with in individual ways.... Oh, this was a breathe of fresh air.... we pointed out that we weren't in the catchment for the school and she said that wouldn't be a problem, they'd fit her in....

So, then I thought I'd be completely bold and say "so, do you think she could start here next week? we really want to get her out of West... and we'd like her to be used to the school before Blake starts in Prep next year"  and she went "that's fine, she can start tomorrow if you want...."

We figured we'd need to let Jade know about this and figured we'd probably have an interesting time getting her to change schools.... but... she was the most excited kid when I picked her up from school and told her that she wouldn't be going back there....  I wrote an email to the school as soon as I got home and advised them that Jade would not return and if they could pack up her gear I would collect it.  They did not even bother to respond to my email.

Anyway, Jade's exciting news for the day was that she'd lost her tooth at school...... and then while showing all of the kids on the bus (as they were coming back from swimming lessons) - she managed to lose the tooth.... so.... someone cleaning the bus probably had to find this tooth and dispose of it... probably not the highlight of their day!

We told Jade to write a letter to the tooth fairy and explain what had happened and to just go with that....

Not really the letter I had imagined... but this is what happens when you leave them to it... not a bad effort :)

Tooth #9 is gone....

Tooth fairy wrote Jade a note... then nearly forgot to put it into her room.....OOOPS!
(5am it went in!)
