Whale Watching - Hervey Bay

Saturday 16th August

As we drove to Hervey Bay we were a little nervous.... the weather reports hadn't been fantastic.... this could have been a very unpleasant day out on the water if we'd had to stay inside the boat all day.....

We got to the boat a little early, so we stopped for a coffee.... (not that we'd go back to this place - the guy making the coffees was most unpleasant...)

I think someone is a little over the camera ... AGAIN...

Blake had been sent home from school earlier in the week as he'd headbutted a pole.... he still had the bruise to show for it...

Then it was time to board....

Frank, Claire & Jade heading down to the boat....

and we're ready to go!

The kids were so excited.... and I was extremely nervous about them falling overboard... (call me paranoid... but it is a fear and not a situation I'd ever have to want to deal with....)

Blake was really cold - so we put Jade's rain coat on him... (he was glad she had this one in her school bag and not her pink one!)

The wind on the boat makes for a lovely hair style.....

I gave up and decided to tie it back!

We weren't sure what to expect from whale watching, having never been... Rob was convinced that we'd only see them off in the distance and not up close... he had said that it's all a big scam and they aren't allowed to get too close to the whales.....  he was wrong! :)  and he was happy to be wrong (this time!)

Dad went and spoke to the captain of the boat to see if Blake could check out the controls.....

One very happy 5yr old!

After we got off the boat, this was where we headed for lunch.....

Mom bought the kids toy whales... (though, Blake keeps calling his a dolphin....)

It was a brilliant day and a great way to spend Mom's birthday weekend.......
