Heron Island for Donna & Mick's Wedding

Saturday 11th August

A few of the derby peeps got all packed up and ready go head over to Heron Island for one of our Derby couple's wedding....

Shreds, Bettie & Nick - all checked in and waiting for the boat

Jade

Rob and the kids

Shreds & her hubby Troy

Monique and myself

Once on the boat - we moved up to the front so that we could take over all of the front seats and leave the kids floorspace to play around on....

Bettie & Nick

Me & Bettie
(argh - it still pains me to phrase it like that... but I am on the left hand side of this pic... and it just has to be that way)

Nick getting settled in....

The kids wanted to go out onto the front of the boat to look out over the water as we were going....

Ahhh... a windswept family!

We arrived at the Island with just over an hour before it was time for the wedding.... which sounds like a lot - but not when you've been on a boat and had your hair blown everywhere and you now need to convince it to straighten!

Rob took the kids down to the giant chess set to play chess while I attended to my mop hair....

Ahhh... they scrub up so nicely...

It's so hard to get outfits for Jade that are suitable for her age - but in a size suitable for a 12yr old!
But, I think I did ok :)

Ruh-Roh - Where did you get a purse Puggle?  Did you steal it???

sprung!  hehehe

All Dressed up and just a little bit pregnant :)
(Kiri, that is!)

Waiting for the bride to arrive...

Blake (before his pool drowning episode..)

Monique and Lacey

Monique, Lacey & Bettie

Jake & Blake

The Camera was stolen by the Teens and the selfies started!

In the toilets Mick and Nordy's pics from the Black and Blue Ball at Rollercon were all plastered around the walls....   apparently this didn't make Nordy very popular with Mick - but we all thought it was funny :)

Jade & Jake

The wedding cake - was quite literally a Cheese Cake

Ahh - and this is Blake in his "post-drowning" outfit....

Explanation:  We were all standing around chatting and then I look over and Blake has climbed onto the rocks above the pool... these were fairly big rocks... and stood about three rocks high... and of course, he was up the top... immediate thought was "Geez... that's not smart" ... next minute... *splash*... so I ran... by the time I got to the pool Blake had pulled himself out and was standing there looking a little confused as to what had happened... and then got sad realising how wet and cold he was... so I rushed him back to our room and got him changed.. then all was good with the world again! - - - it just made me really grateful that we have kept the kids involved in swimming lessons!)

Our Table Names....
(and we were on the fish table.... we weren't forced to eat fish - thank goodness!)

This was the wishing tree... each guest was given a card with a pile of questions on it and asked to fill it out - such as which person we knew from the couple - where we met - how long we'd known each other - special wishes for them - etc... and then once it was completed, we had to put it up on the tree to wish them in their married life....

The sweets table.... the kids loved this!

Jade was happy that she snuck in a red sweet.... boy did we regret that the next day!

Mr & Mrs Dennis

Cutting the Cheesecake..

(The story behind the cheesecake rather than traditional wedding cake is that the bride turns into a bitch once they've eaten wedding cake... therefore, if it's cheese and not wedding cake - she will never turn into a bitch and they will have a very happy life..... so far so good!)

And then there was some dancing.....

Rob took Blake back to the room first and then once Jade was getting tired I took her off to bed too... the kids watched some short cartoon, then it was bed time...

Sunday 12th August

We spent the morning walking up the beach with the kids..... we hadn't taken togs for the kids so we had to buy some while we were there.... Wow they know how to charge!

Rob stayed at the resort while we did our walk....

The water out here was just gorgeous....

We found a dead crab... but we stopped to investigate it..

Blake was fascinated....

Then we found a path through the bush back to the hotel....

Then we went for a walk down to the pier to check out the reef sharks etc....

Monique and Lacey

We walked down the stairs - so Jade got her feet wet looking at the sea creatures...

Von & Monique

Oh No!  Bettie is going to kick Jade into the water!

Shark!

Wreckage...

Standing in the water....

Sea Turtle

Groper

One not to adventurous puggle who was too cold to stay in his togs...

The whales out at sea that were causing us issues with our boat being able to come and collect us...  we left about 1.5hrs later than we were supposed to have

Will was sick of waiting - so he decided to go for a swim....

Ruh-Roh... SHARK!
hehe

The kids each got a sea turtle

and we're finally on our way home!

Nemo was playing on the boat....

The kids were playing under the tables..

(we took over the front of the boat again)

Oooh look... baby bump!

Von

Nick & a G33king Wobz

Jake & Jade

Tania & Bettie

Monique, Lacey, Shreds & Troy

We were glad to get back to Gladstone - but then Nick and I had to rush off to training as it was our last scrim before our bout against the Northern Brisbane Rollers in less than a week's time....(we had at least been able to notify the coach of our running late due to whales etc... there's very little reception on the Island which was really really nice!)
