Superbikes 2012 - Day 1

Wednesday 22nd February

The day started in a major rush - I headed into work to finish a client's work before I was ready to fly out so that I wasn't having to worry about the fact that it wasn't finished for the following ten days...    Unfortunately, as with a lot of client jobs - the client doesn't always tell you everything until you get right to the end... and one final piece of information meant that figures have to be recalculated - so I advised the client that they'd have to wait...

While all this was going on - I'd had a few phone calls from Qantas asking if we could change our flights because they'd over booked the flight...  - they were going to put us on a Virgin Blue flight that left all of 10mins earlier - and for some reason - thought we'd jump at the chance...  not likely, not when it meant that I'd have to get off the plane in Brissy - collect our luggage and check into the Qantas flight in Brissy - wasting about half an hour of the hour we had to change flights...   with two little kids in toe... this wasn't what I wanted to be doing....  I did suggest that if they could get us on earlier connecting flights - then I'd be interested in doing that - as long as they got us into Melbourne earlier....

So, after about half an hour - they called back and said that they could get us to Melbourne an hour earlier by flying us out of Gladstone 40mins earlier... so I was all for that....

We got the kids down and on the plane - Rob had Jade sitting with him in the row in front of us and I had Blake with me....

As usual, Blake was charming all of the flight attendants on both flights...  they all came up to say hi at one point or another during the flight....     Jade was kept busy with games with Rob...   both flights ended up being very easy with both kids... when we got to Melbourne you could see that they were both tired and it was nearly 8pm before we even got out of the rental car place....  we stopped once we'd got through the city and had to try to find somewhere to grab some food before the kids went to sleep - so while we were stopped we got them into their PJ's....

Mom and Dad had arrived at the Island at about 10am that morning - so they'd checked into the cabin and had set up our beds for our arrival - which was fantastic....  we got the kids fed and they were both asleep by the time we arrived... put them straight to bed and didn't hear from them until 6am the next morning... (unfortunately - with daylight savings - 6am was NOT when WE were wanting to be awake.... but.... thems the brakes!)
