Saturday 19th February
Yesterday morning - 6am - Jade's comes running into my bedroom "Is it time to go to Melbourne yet???" she was not overly impressed that she had to wait around all day before we could fly out....
Dad, Frank & Suzie were heading off to Brisbane for the first trial of the year down there, camping overnight... and so we headed to Mom and Dad's place in the morning to see Dad before he left....
When we got there, there was a cement truck in the neighbour's yard pumping cement for slab to the new shed that's going into the yard... (the neighbours are doing a lot of renovations to the house at the moment) - So Dad put step ladders for both kids so that they could see what was happening.....
(Side Note: They started making noise at 6:15am - which apparently wouldn't be thrilling their next door neighbour who has a problem with a wheelie bin going down the driveway at 7am..... - - - This has been the cause of many abusive comments flying over the fence.... Poor Mom and Dad having to put up with Grumpy-the-neighbour.... but it does make for funny conversations when we head over and other people are making noise at any time of the day......)
Big Trucks are always exciting for little people....
4pm..... We were at the airport and ready to take off.....
Blake was standing near the gate - holding onto his Elmo Suitcase and looks at me and says "C'mon - I'm ready to go!" I guess he figured once he was ready - then the plane should be ready too!!!!
1st Flight - Gladstone to Brisbane.....
The sun was extremely bright, and those little prop planes don't have shades... argh - de-light - de-light!!!!
Seating on these planes is 2x2 - so Jade & Blake sat together on the flight until nearly the end of the flight when Blake decided he wanted to sit on the side next to me, so I moved him, until he realised I was still going to make him wear his seat belt whether he liked it or not.... (if only they had a five point harness on planes - THAT - would be awesome!)
Technology at it's best.... Jade and her DSi and Blake was playing on the iPod with headphones so that he didn't annoy other passengers....
We had to kill an hour and a half in Brisbane from the time we landed til the time we had to board the next flight.... so we went and got something to eat (of which nothing was really consumed) - and then headed to the next gate....
This sounds like an easy task... but in the end - I ended up carrying laptop bag, backpack with change of clothes etc for kids and camera in it etc... and each of the kid's suitcases with books, dvd players etc..... Jade did take her suitcase for some of the walk... and Blake was just walking up to everyone and saying hi... and randomly hitting keyboards of any laptops he got close too... (which, I think I probably would have got a bit annoyed with - but then he looks at them with his cheeky face and does the "hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" that he's so good at and they all smile at him and say hi back..... no one can resist his charms.... (and we thought we were going to have dating issues with Jade!!!!!))
Anyway, so it takes 2-3 times longer to walk to the gate when you're continually having to keep the attention of a 2yr old who wants to greet every single person in the airport as well as pat every guide dog puppy donation container that we walked past.... we eventually got to the gate...or so I thought.... I put the bags down "Jade, where's blake?" "I don't know....." ARGH!!!!!!! Luckily I could see him from where I was.... "Jade, you stay here" - - - "I'm coming with!!!" .... "NO! you will stay here.... " and off I ran... got Blake who was not impressed at being told where to go.... it made for a very LONG 30mins before Blake decided to try to see if he can open the doors to the air bridge... so I got up - moved all of the bags to the gate and stood there with Blake and the tickets in my hand, and Jade stood with us continually asking "is it time to get on the plane? Daddy will be waiting!!!!"
They started boarding us 5mins early because they could see that I just wanted to get into the plane and get the kids strapped in!!!
2nd Flight - Brisbane (7:10pm AEST) to Melbourne (10:30pm - AEDST)
Keeping in mind that by 7:10pm - the kids are already past bedtime, they were AMAZING during the flight.... Jade's DVD player kept freezing up, I'm not sure if it was the DVD player or the SD card, but something wasn't working.... luckily she was happy to watch what Blake was watching - and luckily I'd taken the headphone splitter.. (that's what Rob said to call it - basically - it plugs into where the headphone port is - and has this adaptor that lets you plug in 6 sets of headphones... it's for sharing iPod.... but I figured it was just as good for DVD purposes)
Jade's busy buttering a breadroll while Blake watches Blues Clues......
We landed in Melbourne just after 10pm (earlier than expected, but not that we minded......) - Rob had picked up the hire car and put the kids seats in it already, so we just had to get back to the hotel room and get the kids to bed....
THAT was easier said than done....
Firstly, when we got off the plane, both kids were hyped to see Rob (they hadn't seen him at this stage for the past 10 days.....) - and - AGAIN - Blake had to pat every single Guide Dog donation container that he saw....
It would have been nearly 11pm before we got back to the hotel, then we had to get the kids changed and put on a Mickey Mouse to get them to settle down for bed... they were both still bouncing around the place.... at this point I started worrying about annoying other people in the hotel (not sure how much noise goes outside those rooms)... but once Mickey was over, we said it was bed time, put the kids into their beds and turned off the lights - and neither of them complained about it... straight to sleep....
BRILLIANT LITTLE MONSTERS WHEN THEY WANT TO BE!
