HMAS Gladstone

Friday 11th March
(woops - this is a bit out of order.....)

During a work lunchbreak (well, my day was over... but it was Janine's lunch break) - she took me over to the HMAS Gladstone for a sneak preview... this hadn't been opened yet and was definitely not ready for the tour that I got....  It was so awesome to see everything and be able to climb through the entire ship....

Captains Lounge

Yeah, their showers aren't too big!

Neither are their loos!

Stop looking!!! I'm trying to be discreet!

Bunk rooms...  these were the higher level officers... they only had to share two to a room and from what I understand, only one officer would be sleeping at a time, so they pretty much had the room to themselves...

They have their own special mattresses....

Imagine the field day Rob would have in a room with this many buttons to press!

The ship is permanently docked in the Gladstone Harbour

The kitchen is compact, but still really large....

And a servery

This is the lounge where the rest of the crew gets to hang out....

and their bunk room... I believe there were 8 beds in here

And they each had one of these for storage....

Janine practising her firing abilities!

I didn't think I'd fit in this chair....

I fit.... just!!!

More buttons!

This "man" that Janine is holding up is their practice dummy.... he'd be thrown into the water and they'd have to go in after him and rescue him... and he weighed a tonne dry!  Imagine him wet!

I got to climb up these.... so much climbing! So awesome!

This was their "who is on shift" board... you'd check on and off shifts so that they'd know who was around....

This is a great addition to the Gladstone Harbour and will be great with all of the P&O Cruise ships set to visit Gladstone...
