Monday 12th December.....
Jodi came over with Jemma & Amy to bring visit before Christmas..... and they brought Jade some "make-up" as her present.... so naturally, once you put 3 girls into a room with makeup - they all come out covered.... not to mention when the Puggle went in to find out what was happening, he got covered too....
I didn't get pics while Jodi was still here, Blake was a bit clingy and I was busy socialising with Jodi.... but the three girls were dressed in Jade's princess dresses and their faces were various shades of ... well... glitter I guess... There was pink and purple - and probably other colours... they were all mixed by the end....
Blake had been covered in purple - and he looked like he had a mask on.....
As for Blake, he'd been a bit off all day.... whingy etc.... the night before, I'd noticed he had spots on his bum, but figured this was a case of nappy rash.... by morning the spots appeared to have gone - so I'd stopped stressing about that....
I'd noticed in the morning that he had an ulcer on his tongue... I couldn't work out what would have caused it, but it was only about 3mm in diameter, so I figured this was just making him a bit uncomfy.... I put some sm33 on it (teething gel) and that seemed to make him at least a little happier - but it didn't last long...
I put him down for his afternoon sleep - he wouldn't drink, he wouldn't eat.....
When he got up from his afternoon sleep.... he had spots on his bum, legs, hands, feet, cheeks... only little spots... nothing like when he had hand foot & mouth last time....
I asked him to show me his tongue again, the ulcer was now about 6mm and looking quite angry.... so, we arranged to get to the doctors.... I dropped Jade with Mom & Dad and headed over....
So, not only did Blake have Hand, Foot & Mouth again... (different strain) - he also had a mouth ulcer virus which was unrelated to the mouth ulcers that they get from the HF&M.... So, I phoned the daycare to warn them that it was going around again and that the mouth ulcer thing was totally separate and to keep an eye out for it also... (found out later that they had had cases of that through the daycare, but, most people don't consider mouth ulcers to be contagious - so it's not something you can expect them to notify the parents of...)
The Doctor had seen 4 other cases of the mouth ulcer virus that day.... 1 adult and 3 toddlers.... so it was doing it's rounds....
Mom and Dad were working the entire week, so I got to spend an extremely long week at home....Blake didn't eat for all of Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.....
By Thursday Blake had lost nearly 2kgs... it wasn't through lack of wanting to eat, he was trying everything.... he got to the point where even water in his mouth would make him scream, but luckily because he kept trying various things, he didn't get to the point of extreme dehydration and hospitalisation..... it was a bit scary though.... but for the entire week, I was not able to do anything... I had to sit with him all day, he was extremely sad, sick and sore....
I figured I'd be able to take him out to play in the yard during the day, but he was light sensitive (part of HF&M) - so outside wasn't happening either.....
He was up every 1-2hrs at night looking for something to drink... so he'd be having sips of water through the night.....
Friday morning he asked for Cheese Flavours... which are kinda like twisties - but they're straight - and they're soft, flavourless... and they're a kid "health-food" chip..... at this point, I was willing to hand him anything just to get him eating.... and sure enough - he ate the entire packet and came back looking for more.... we tried other things during the day figuring he was better, but other food was still upsetting him....
By Saturday he was nearly 100% better, but not knowing whether he was still contagious - he still had to be kept away from everyone else.....
